What are the advantages of using power line communication? Why
didn't you use a wireless or GSM solution or an off-the-shelf fieldbus?
Power-line communication has the following advantages:
- Higher network reliability because of integrated redundancy
- Higher network/service availability (available in each household on each wall outlet)
- Lower costs for infrastructure and services
Is REMPLI just an academic feasibility study or is there a real-world implementation planned?
A large field trial of the system starts in summer 2006 in Sofia,
Bulgaria. The hardware and software used for this field trial will be
close to the final product.
The ready product is expected at the end of 2006.
